1. Who are the persons eligible for duty free shopping
from your warehouse?
Answer: Diplomats, Expatriate Consultants having contract with
the government of Bangladesh under various projects and the Privileged
Persons.

2. Who are the Privileged Persons? Please explain.
Answer: Foreign nationals working in different organizations
of the United Nations and world bodies like The World Bank, Asian
Development Bank, IMF etc and also foreign aided projects of GOB.

3. What is Custom’s Pass Book? From where shall I
get my Custom’s Pass Book & how?
Answer: A Custom’s Pass Book which is issued from the Custom’s
authority to the Privileged Persons for make an entry after each and
every duty free purchase by deducting his/her quota on the Pass Book
by the authorized Custom’s Officer. To get a Custom’s Pass Book one
has to apply through his/her employers/sponsors to the National Board
of Revenue (NBR), government of Bangladesh.

4. What is quota? How it is determined? How much quota
I am entitled for three month’s period? Please provide a table showing
the quota allocation as per size of the family.
Answer: ‘Quota’ is an amount of particular quantity of duty
free items you are allowed to purchase with in three months period
of time determined by the authority.A

5. With in how many months I am entitled to buy duty
free electronic items after getting my Custom’s Pass Book?
Answer: The Custom’s Pass Book holder is allowed to buy electronic
items within six months of his arrival in Bangladesh. After six months
period you will have to procure special permission from the Bond Commissariat
under National Board of Revenue (NBR).

6. What are the items considered as durable and semi-durable?
Please provide us with a list of durable and semi-durable items.
Answer: Durable household items like car, refrigerator, deep-freezer,
air conditioner, musicals, furniture etc whether imported or purchased
from a warehouse under special permission, within six months of the
arrival of the privileged person in Bangladesh will be entered in
the Custom’s Pass Book. Valuable antiques, paintings etc will also
be entered in the book. Semi-durable and breakable miscellaneous household
items like China glassware, dinner set, children’s by-cycle, tool
box, bathroom scale etc either imported or purchased from a warehouse
under special permission will also be entered in the Custom’s Pass
Book. However, it will not be necessary to record by name items not
exceeding Tk.1000 in (assessed) value.

7. Can I take home my duty free purchases of durable
and semi-durable items after completion of my tenure of job in Bangladesh?
If yes, how?
Answer: Yes, you can take your purchases but if you sell or
make any gift of your purchases inside Bangladesh, you will have to
pay duty and taxes as per existing regulations.

8. What is Tax Exemption Certificate? Who are entitled
for this certificate? From where shall I get it?
Answer: Only diplomats are entitled for Tax Exemption Certificate
to purchase their daily necessities, durable and semi-durable household
items, foodstuff, frozen food, liquor stuff, alcoholic& non-alcoholic
beverages, beer, toiletries, perfumeries, electronic items etc. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), government of Bangladesh issues
this Tax Exemption Certificates to the diplomats according to their
requirement and size of the family through their respective Missions.

9. Who is the authorized person to check whether I
am entitled for duty free shopping?
Answer: There is a Custom’s Officer-in-Charge permanently posted
in our warehouse by the government of Bangladesh to look after the
entitlement and under his signature our valued clients can purchase
duty free items.

10. If I make an online shopping from your warehouse,
how shall I perform the Custom’s formalities? Please advise.
Answer: To perform the Custom’s formalities during duty free
shopping our valued clients will have to visit our warehouse at least
once to prove his entitlement and show his/her Passport and other
relevant documents to the Custom’s Officer. Then after for subsequent
and regular shopping, he/she can send his/her authorized person to
collect the shopping items from us.

11. Is there any duty free shop for travelers or
foreign Passport holders?
Answer: Yes, there are duty free shops in the arrival and departure
lounges of the International Airports.

12. Where shall I get liquor stuff and beer as a
foreigner?
Answer: Liquor stuff and alcoholic beer is restricted in our
country. But for foreign travelers and nationals, there is a duty
paid shop ‘H. Kabir & Company Limited’ 12, Abbas Garden, Mohakhali
Dhaka-1215, from where you can buy those items.

Answer: For the first purchase you need to show your Passport
and subsequently photocopy of the Passport will serve the purpose.

15. What is your mode of payment? Will you accept
payment through Credit Cards?
Answer: Mainly we accept Bank cheques from converted accounts
in US Dollar and Travelers Cheques (TC). We also accept payment through
Visa and Master Cards. But we are not allowed to accept cash either
in local or foreign currencies. We also accept foreign Bank cheque
with US$10/- per cheque extra as collection charges.

16. Can I return or change any item, if found bad
or not up to the standard after taking delivery.
Answer: Since it is a specialized duty free shop with Custom’s
formalities, we advise our valued clients to check every item before
taking delivery. But for the greater interest of our valued clients,
sometimes we have to change or substitute items.

Answer: No, time of delivery depends with the office timings
of Custom’s Officer from the government.
Our time schedule for shopping and collecting of items is as following:-

Office Timing: From 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM (Saturday to Thursday)
Time of taking delivery of items: From 10.30 PM to 4.00 PM
Thursday delivery: From 10.30 PM to 2.00 PM

Answer: Our warehouse is located in 80 Gulshan Avenue, in-between
Gulshan Circle-1 and 2, adjacent to the South East Bank.
